About This Blog

This blog is in no way affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, however.. what it is, is my personal scripture guide, that helps and allows me to keep tabs on what I've been reading, and to help break down each book in the Book of Mormon.  Please follow along, and leave comments of insight.  Thank you for spending time here, and hope to hear from you soon!

52 weeks recap

Hello all that read this... the 3.  :) I have a new blog for the 52 weeks... it's 52 Weeks of Personal Spiritual Growth . I have been encouraged by my beauty of a wife to continue Learning and Loving this blog so I will continue to post... and post more frequently, because this blog... in an odd way is like our testimony; we need to share it, and we need to take care of it so that it can grow. So I will be probably picking up where I left off in Nephi, and dive back into it.  It's a great feeling to do this, and it's great to hear responses, so I encourage everyone to put in feedback and share your knowledge.

Thank you for your support, and don't forget to check out 52 weeks beginning January 1st 2010.

Peace and Love,
Nick Jarvis

52 weeks of learning and growing

Beginning here in a few weeks, I am going to be starting a new idea that John Kramer taught me. Each week I will be posting a new topic (52 in all) each week will be of a different subject matter and it will hopefully be of some service to us, as we continue striving to be a better person.

Each Week, such as week one will be on: Beginnings, So I will discuss the topic of starting either New, or Starting Fresh. but Beginning none the less; I will have quotes from Scripture, as well as from other well known people outside of the church, as well as my own personal insight. So in week 1, I will take the whole week for myself to learn as much as I can about the topic, and I will try to apply it to my daily life, and by the 52nd week, I hope that I am a far better person as I am now.

I hope anyone who would like to join me would do so, and I really hope to hear from you, and of your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks!

Nick

Depression in Recession

The BBC has an Interesting Article on how the economic crisis is leading to an emotional crisis in many men in the face of trouble providing for their families. The report on a survey that found men are twice as likely currently to report having suicidal thoughts, half as likely to discuss their trouble with friends or family, and while experience mental health problems in roughly equal numbers with women, they go untreated far more often.

This is interesting to me for several reasons. The suffering goes on largely in silence. Men don’t use health care in general to the extent that women do and they absolutely don’t use mental health care to the same extent. One could look at this as evidence that women in our society are oppressed, if it suited their purpose. You could argue that men are healthier because they are more free from the trap of poverty and childcare. You could also be dead wrong. This is a perfect example of how using mental health statistics to prove an oppression argument only feeds the monsters of stigma and prejudice.

I think depression during the Recession, has been a major factor as an LDS saint. I feel it is certainly testing our patience, as well as our testimony. For some, it is very hard to pay an honest tithe, and yet, here were we are on an economic downfall, and we are still asked to pay a 10%. While most people find that very difficult, we need to remember that not only are we paying that tithing to bring more temples to the masses, we are also helping serve others in means of food as well as other home necessities. I see this time as a very difficult time for Mormon members, but a strengthening time as well.

ALMA 26:27

Now when our hearts were
depressed, and we were about to turn back,
behold, the Lord comforted us, and said:
...bear with patience thine afflictions, and
I will give unto you success.

We must rise..

"We must rise by our own efforts and walk by faith. One of our greatest resources for success and happiness is doing the right thing now"
~Marvin J Ashton.

What a great quote. Amera got me a good book entitled. "Wisdom of the Prophets; Success" it has great quotes by the prophets, and is definitely a good read. This quote is a great quote for someone like me, who struggles with my own life, and success. 'We must rise by our own efforts' in other words, we need to use our strength, and our own choices, and hold ourselves accountable for the outcome of them. we must 'walk in faith' and stay true to the iron rod, and follow our Lord in faith. As for me, this is a great quote, and i hope you too can enjoy this quote. Also go pick up the book at Deseret Book!

None Were With Him

Jeffry R. Holland tells us during last conference about how we need to remember this easter time, and in all times, not just Easter weekend, but to be able to remember that we are his children, and that he is and will always be there for us. I love this because it's a great way to visualize what it is that he(Holland) wanted to enterprate. I think that this is a great way for us to restore and continue to grow our testimony that we have for our love of our Savior.
